Mary Shelley’s macabre novels

Mary Shelley’s novels were truly ahead of their time, their allure driven by thought-provoking themes—such as the roles of men and women in society, humanity, politics, love and chaos—all rendered with a gothic twist. Through striking black-and-white visuals, this project reflects the severity and complexity of the themes evoked in the author’s works.
This straightforward approach was inspired by the simplicity and grain of the 19th century’s macabre imagery, as well as the duality between the subjects and the literary genre. The book titles, specifically drawn for the project, feature sharp edges and corners in a narrow, sophisticated serif.
